Hello my angels.  It's been a while.

I won't bother you with excuses as to why it's been so long since my last post, as you know love and life happens.

But I will tell you this:  I'm engaged!  That's right.  Iowa loverboy proposed to me on Valentine's day of this year at the airport in Omaha when I was on a surprise trip to see him.  (FYI loverboy is back in Iowa finishing up some training etc for piloting.  I meanwhile have been holding down the fort in LA and getting a lot more girl time in.  And skype time.)

And yes, the wedding date and many of the plans are already set.  We're only going to be engaged for 6 months before tying the knot in September.  In another state.  Across the country.  I don't think one realizes how stressful planning a wedding is until they do a google search for wedding venues in the Charleston, WV area only to find that the Holiday Inn Express is listed in the top 5 results.  I'll just tell you that my weekly date night on Friday with loverboy has turned into an affair with a $10 bottle of Syrah and episodes of The Tudors.  (Which I'm sad to say I have watched through... now what!?)

Planning this wedding has taken some of my time that might otherwise be spent moping about my darling being back in the corn state, but it's still hard indeed.  I have no one to calm me down and hold me after getting into a screaming match with my father over the catering budget.  I have no one to give me a massage after listening to my grandparents complain about the 30 minute drive that they will have to take to get to the venue...

But knowing that loverboy will finally be ready to take on the piloting world with me as his new wife is all I need to remember how worthwhile this time apart is.

So this blog will be taking a turn; just for a while.  I won't be going out near as much until he gets back due to the fact that I don't have him to go on a date with obviously, but also because that damn wedding budget is forcing me to take on extra work and limit my spending.

So I'm just gonna write about, well anything that comes to my head I suppose.  Perhaps about long distance relationships, perhaps about my disappointment with the first 20 minutes of the Arrested Development pilot, or maybe just about my constant craving for sushi must be a health issue that should be addressed.

But either way...

Love on ag

What you gamble in Vegas.... stays in Vegas, unfortunately.  At least for this gal on the Saturday night leading up to her birthday.  But other than losing some moolah and not getting near enough sleep, Vegas was a ton of fun (despite it being 105 degrees).

There's something about nature that is so liberating for me.  Maybe it's because I grew up in cookie cutter suburbs, maybe it's the smell of trees, maybe it's because nature has no prejudices, everything's connected.  Nature for me means a lot of green and hills; I can't say that the beach is a good nature experience for me.  Thank goodness Griffith Park does exist in this city, or I wouldn't be cut out for it.

This week, bf and I are going to explore Griffith Park and the Los Feliz area.  Now, bf and I used to live in Los Feliz when we first arrived in LA; shacked up with my sister.  :)  So, we have a feel for Los Feliz, especially along Hillhurst and Vermont.  Love that area.  However, there are several restaurants and hot spots in this hipster neighborhood that we have yet to try, so our mission is to see what hasn't been seen.  The plan, keyword PLAN, is to go through Griffith Park during the day and then descend the hill into Los Feliz for grub and fun.  We're hoping to take little Sinatra with us, so this future entry can give some ideas to you dog owners out there that want to find some places that love your furry friend as much as you do.  Can't wait!  Check back next week to see what happens!  (Did that just sound like a soap opera announcement???)

When I think of "Tokyo" I think of unique fashion, busy busy busy, and lots of lights all over the place.  So if you go to "Little Tokyo" and expect to find a trace of that, you might be a little disappointed. Actually, you won't find a trace of much, not even Japanese.  As I mentioned in my posts earlier, the bf and I went there Saturday night to take advantage of a savings event sponsored by yelp.com, but it didn't quite go as I had imagined.

I suppose you could say that I wasn't exactly in a total date night mode.  How does one balance the long and tiring hours of holding multiple jobs, working out, SLEEPING, and leisure in this city?  I'm straining to do all of those, especially last Saturday.  I was super tired after having to be at the hair salon at 8:30 am.  My plan was to go to bed really early Friday night, but we started our netflix, The Color Purple, and then a bottle of wine got opened and well let's just say I had more than my fair share of wine and the movie got done after midnight.  Whoops.

This Saturday is date night number two and we are going to spend the evening in Little Tokyo.  I decided on this because I saw a yelp.com sponsored event called passport to Little Tokyo.  You can print off a little passport that has different discounted offers at restaurants and shops etc in Little Tokyo. I thought we should take advantage of that this week, the offer only lasts until the 8th.  Gotta love saving money!  You should check it out, just go onto yelp.com and if you search for anything in LA, there should be a featured ad at the top of the page that you can click on.  Can't wait, look for the post some time on Sunday!

After a long day of running around doing assistant work, yes that is another one of my jobs, it was time to get ready. Date night had arrived!  Oh happy day, oh joyous day, ...oh what's that bad smell???

What better way to get this blog started than with a classic night in Hollywood.  I thought I would buy us tickets to a double feature at the Egyptian Theater and due to a late work schedule, dinner afterwards at Mel's Diner.  We haven't been to either, I'm excited to see what's in store!
